Who Should Attend? Diary Prices & Booking Reviews FAQ

Sean Matthews is a highly accomplished professional photographer working on projects all over the world. His knowledge of the area of high definition photography will provide a fantastic opportunity for you to develop your own skill whilst you will also see the stunning areas of London.

Sean's knowledge of this style of photography is second-to-none, and under his expert tuition and guidance, students will be shown London from a different perspective. This is a walking workshop where you will not only seek out the well known monuments and well as their silent partners, but also the bridges spanning the Thames, the markets and the people. You will learn to blend old with new and add excitement to otherwise stationary objects. and then put your own stamp on them. If you would like achieve a photo that when shown people say "Wow"; not "that's nice", and we want it straight of the camera without spending 2 days on Photoshop, then you will love this short course. The selection of photos here and on the London Photo Gallery are real not photo-shopped!

Jan : (Route 1)

Starting from Victoria Station the walk will take us along to Buckingham Palace. This is our 1st stop before moving along past St James's Park and out to Trafalgar Square. After a few more photos we walk done Whitehall where we rest for a while and chat over a glass of wine in a local London Pub. After we've all warmed up and looked at our photos for critiques we head towards the Silver Jubilee Bridges up Scotland Yard. We cross the Thames over the bridge of course taking more dramatic photos and then head towards the London Eye and Westminster Bridge passing the London Aquarium. The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Cathedral and Big Ben are last sites on our workshop before we walk back past St James's Park to Victoria Station

Feb : (Route 2)

We start from London Bridge Station and take the Thames walk along the river to Tower Bridge. You never know your luck it might just open for us. After capturing as many angles of the bridge as possible we cross over the Thames and head for the Tower of London. More photos and then along to St Paul's Cathedral. By now you will be getting the idea and avoid the obvious shots that you will see at least 50 tourists taking. Moving swiftly on we Cross Millennium Bridge towards Tate Modern Gallery. Here we will stop for a rest, chat and wine and a review of one another's photos. I will ask you all to do critiques of each others photos which is always fun. Then we will start to walk along the south side of the Thames towards the Golden Hind and back into London Bridge Station.

The routes we take may vary due to weather conditions, construction works, etc, but we will review the position on the day. If a past student from previous weeks is in the group then I will always try to endeavour that they see something new each time we go out.

What method is used in this workshop?

This is not a theory course but a very hands-on practical workshop.  We will talk in terms that everyone understands and try to keep the technical jargon at bay. We concentrate on stunning photography full of movement and light. Whether your self taught or you are returning for a refresher this workshop will help you concentrate on taking good photos.. Being out on location is a superb way to learn and enhance your photographic skills and we will make full use of tripods at each stop along the way. Students will see some of the most spectacular scenes and buildings in Europe and learn how to be selective about which images they want to keep and which ones they will discard. We are not going to run off 1000 photos. We will learn how to compose the shot, frame it and take it and then we either move on or retake. We have to follow the light for this type of work. The group will be split into different pairs for each location and Sean will take a different student individually. We will be looking to create special view points of well known objects. If you think the shot your about to take is interesting ask yourself why.?

Reviews

Great fun and incredible photo's. Worth every penny. I'll be back to quote "Arnie".  Ray Gould - Brighton.

So much in my camera that I didn't even know was there. I'm now taking some wonderful photos. Haven't quite got the eye yet for the movement but getting there slowly. Thanks Sean you were a lovely hoist!! Diana Peterson - Amsterdam

I phoned Sean last minute while I was in London on a conference for 5 days. I thought it sounded better than going to another evening drinks party. So glad you squeezed me in because I leant so much that night and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I take my camera to all the cities I have to visit now and must say I'm proud of what I'm starting to achieve. Many thanks I would recommend this tour to anyone. Michael Peers - Cardiff

So glad I found you on the web. Loved it to bits. Julia - Florida

My wife Mary booked this trip for me as a birthday surprise. I think she had seen far to many questionable photos. I was a little concerned as I only have a power shot Canon G10, but I needn't have been as I was just amazed how in the short space of an hour I started to get "out of this world" photos. Sean's comment of "it's not the camera mate... it's the...****  on the other end" made me smile but it did prove that once you know how to adjust the settings it really is all about technique and looking around you.  David G - Richmond
